Entla's Keller is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque places to go and have a beer (or two) in Erlangen. A beer garder with its own small brewery is situated at the foot of the Burgberg hill, and has a long and rather important history. And there, the TSD2025 conference dinner and beer party will take place. Just go on reading...
In the middle of the 19th century, Erlangen was the first in the Bavarian beer export – even ahead of Munich and Kulmbach! The Erlangen beer was not only appreciated in many restaurants around the German Empire but also exported to other European countries and even to North America. Where did the success of Erlangen beer come from? The answer is in the history of the cellars in the mountain of the city.

In 1686, Heinrich Windisch made the start and the other breweries followed: 16 cellars and corridors of almost 20 km in length crossed the hill. Through the course of time, the cellars developed also into a place of leisure for the population. Because at the beginning, only the brewers allowed themselves an after-work refreshment, for which a barrel had to be tapped. The word spread, which is why more and more citizens went to the hill of Erlangen to refresh themselves with the incomparable taste of the Keller Bier (cellar beer, in English).
Entla's Keller is known, among other things, for its excellent location under shady trees, its traditional Franconian snacks, "Ochs am Spieß" (roasted ox), and is also a fundamental part of the oldest beer festival in the world, the Erlangen Bergkirchweih, which attracts around one million visitors every year and transforms the area around the Burgberg into a cheerful get-together with music, beer, dancing, fun, and games. With its charm and atmosphere, it enchants young and old, from near and far.
