Smart Active Node

This software has been developed as a part of research on programmable networks and distributed computing on the University of West Bohemia. It follows the previous research project on Load redistribution in a distributed heterogeneous environment. Smart Active Node came out of design of Active Networks, whose implementations had serious in drawbacks in efficiency and security. Smart Active Node has several key changes of the design to avoid these drawbacks. The software uses Java bytecode, yet it has its own JVM, improved code distribution and modified policies for code execution in the network. Also, the distribution package includes an experimental interceptor for the Linux platform. The interceptor allows adding of program logic to existing IP applications, without rewriting them.
